And their fight for survival has only begun.

VOLITION is the exciting continuation of Noah and Zoe's story from Perception.

Eternal Life is To Die For

Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person. She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans.
Her brother Liam is missing.

Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside. He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t.  He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically.

Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn.  She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her.

***Excerpt***

I feel Colt laugh, and he looks down into my face. That’s when he seems to realize what I’ve been acutely aware of for the last several minutes—our bodies are pressed together. “It’s awesome, yeah?” he says. “Adrenaline rush.” “Yeah,” I breathe. “I guess.” I’m not sure if he’s going to kiss me until he does. His mouth covers mine, and energy mixes with the alcohol flooding my body. Our tongues slide together, and I grip his shirt so I don’t collapse.  Every single bit of this is wrong, and there’s no way I’m stopping it. It’s back, that good feeling. The sadness has been pushed out again, and in its place is this rush, this rush of adrenaline like Colt said.  He pulls back and smiles at me. “We’re going to start dating. Now. You’re my partner in crime.”

**REVIEW** Prodigy by Marie Lu

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.
It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.
But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?
In this highly-anticipated sequel, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

Review

Just putting it out there right now I was so torn by the end of this one.  Naturally I was a huge Legend fan and figured I would find the same in Prodigy, which I did but so many roles were reversed and so many things changed.  The book was closed with the slightest bit of anger when I finished
but I read it so quickly and loved almost every moment of it!  With an entire new edge, so much on the line and a new playing level Prodigy is every bit the literary treat that Legend was.

Being on the run and being the Republic's enemy #1 was hard enough before but now Day is supposed to be dead and the Republic knows different.  Despite injuries and many issues Day and June decide to go to the Patriots, not only look for a place to hide but to see how Tess is.  This is where all the trouble starts.  The Patriots have a plan but doesn't everyone who wants to get to the top?  The problem no one really knows the others motive.  Though this does give way to an action packed and quick paced novel that will leave you wanting more, it also tests the limits of Day and Junes feelings and trust of each other.  Deception and  assassinations plots will push everyone to the limit in this installment.

Once again I fell in love with Day.  This time however he was the June of the story.  A little blinded to what is really going on around him.  Now Day is blinded because of everything that the Republic put him through and to be honest I'm not sure I could really blame him at times.  The most important thing didn't change though, his feelings for June.  Despite everything she initially put him through he sees who she really is and trusts her.  Even in times that he isn't sure he should.  Though his hesitation about trusting June was mostly brought upon by Tess.  Sweet, innocent, little Tess made it very clear that she didn't trust June and planted a few seeds of doubt within Day.

I really felt that this novel really let June shine.  With her eyes opened to everything that is really going on she is a much stronger character.  The only thing that I found didn't progress with her was her trust in her own feelings.  She just wouldn't let herself let Day know that she felt for him, what he felt for her.  Rather than that June pushed herself to the limits and risked more than ever.  She doesn't let anyone else cloud her judgment and has become more kick ass than I had even expected.

How do I finish this up...  There were ups and downs but ultimately this one pulled its weight and shifted things around.  The descriptive and devastated world that Lu created in Legend is changing.  The way you think things are just might not be what they seem and same with the characters.  Filled with twists, turns, change and action Prodigy is not to be missed.  If you are a fan of dystopians don't miss this one.

Quotes
I don't trust him because I don't understand how he can afford to hide out in such nice quarters.  An officer's quarters, in Vegas of all places. -June

"Stop."  I'm a little surprised by how loud and irritated I sound.  I've never raised my voice to Tess before, and I regret it instantly.  I can hear her jealousy in every word she says, the way she spits June's name out like she can't wait to get it over with. -Day

Another eruption of cheers.  I stay frozen where I am.  What're you supposed to do when a bunch of people are yelling your name like they're completely cracked?  I have no goddy clue. -Day

So different from the Keegan Chronicles that made me fall in love with Julia.  Don't take this as a bad thing though because I quickly found myself  pulled into this one.  Seeing it was Julia Crane I will confess that I did really look into the description.  The cover told me it wasn't like her others and was maybe crossing some lines that I normally wouldn't but despite this I eagerly began.  Turns out cyborgs are growing on me and Kaitlyn was just another step to me buoying them mor and becoming more open about reading them.

Kaitlyn is supposed to have no emotion, no pain and give her complete obedience to whomever owns her.  Thing is this story runs a little different than what she's supposed to do.  When Kaitlyn checked the box volunteering her body to science upon her death she didn't realize exactly what he had signed herself up for.  She knows she shoul be dead but not why.  Just like she knows she shouldn't have free thought or emotions but she does.  Julia Crane did a tremendous job creating a secluded area for Kaitlyn and a good balance of people to interact with.  Not to mention the reason behind Kate's existence.  As far as stories go I wasn't surprised at how smoothly this one flowed, from meeting Kaitlyn to the last page I didn't find any rough patches.

We all know how important it is to connect with the main character but how do you accomplish this when the main character is cyborg?  When the author is Julia it wasn't even a problem.  Though Kaitlyn is meant not to be human her behaviour and worries made her relatable.  Obviously she is a kick ass character, heck the girl has been trained to kick ass in every way possible.  Her shooting records are off the chart and I would be lying if I said that wasn't something that I would love to be able to do.  Her only flaw is that I found her a little naive but many times this went unregistered in my mind because she was supposed to be stripped of all emotion and free thought.  The only reason I mention this is because there were a few times she looked to Lucas when she was smart enough to figure it out on her own.

Quess is probably one of my favourite supporting characters.  At first I wouldn't have thought her as young as she was: 14.  Though she is young she is smart and cared about Kaitlyn and tried her best to help her.  She is constantly trying to help Kaitlyn, teach her, help her remember her past and be the only friend, the only person that knows there is more than just a robot in front of her.  There is also Lucas who is the romantic interest.  Her is one of those hot and smart/brainy guys that don't come around often.  He wanted what was best for Kaitlyn but made some crappy decisions and I just wanted to kick him.  I'm kind of nervous that someone brought in near the end of the novel may create a bit of a triangle or push Lucas out but for now this is a triangle free book.

This novel is a show of just how talented Julia Crane is. The ending did leave a little to be desired and ran a little flat for me but that just leaves room for more.  Fans of sci-fi will be pleased and should without a doubt give this a try.  I have always shied away from the genre myself and if there was mention of cyborg anywhere I all but ran.  If you have an open mind and are willing to give something you would normally a try then Freak of Nature should be at the top of your list.
